What is Cyber Bullying?
Cyber bullying is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or otherwise targeted by another child, using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.
Why isn't Cyber Bullying considered bullying?
Unfortunately, since cyber bullying isn't seen as being "traditional", many do not consider cyber bullying to be bullying at all. The fact is that cyber bullying is the most harmful type of bullying that there is. In more severe cases, suicide has been a result of cyber bullying.
Cyber bullying is categorized into two main categories. The two categories are:
-Direct-attacks, and
-Cyber bullying by proxy.
What is a direct-attack and cyber bullying by proxy?
A direct attack means that the bully is directly contacting the victim with the use of electronics.
Cyber bullying by proxy is when a bully uses others to antagonize the victim. One common form of cyber bullying by proxy is when the bully gains access to the victim's personal account and then proceeds to send out "hate-mail" to the victim's friends.
Cyber bullying is broken down into four further classifications. The classifications are:
-The revenge-seeking people,
-The power-hungry,
-The mean girls, and
-Individuals who are not completely aware of their wrong-doings.
Can you further explain what the four classifications of Cyber Bullying are?
Usually, the revenge-seeking people sees themselves as protecting the victims. Usually, they don't get involved unless they see that their friend is being victimized.
The power-hungry bully is often times victims of bullying off-line. The purpose of them bullying electronically is to give their bullies a little taste of their own medicine. This type of bullying loves attention and will do practically anything get it.
The next kind of cyber bully is the mean girls. They also thrive off of attention and will only continue their actions if they get societal approval, or if witnesses continue not to say anything.
The last kind of cyber bully is the bully that isn't aware of their actions. These kinds of cyber bully's actions aren't intentional. The several divisions of cyber bullying causes many to wonder how can cyber bullying be stopped.
So, how can Cyber Bullying be stopped?
The answer is simple. Just like any other case of bullying, cyber bullying could decrease with the help and support of parents.
